Navajo Mission 2010
Black Mesa, NM & Window Rock, AZ
June 11th – 19th

Each year Woodland sends a team to New Mexico to minister at the Navajo Reservation. They work mainly with three organizations: Western Indian Ministries, Forest Lake Baptist Church in Black Mesa, and Rez Refuge. Ministry opportunities include: construction and renovation, distribution of clothing and health care supplies, outreach at local orphanages, and senior craft seminars, as well as many other opportunities to serve.

This summer a group from Woodland will once again be heading out including, Shana (my wife), and I. This years project list isn’t finalized as we try to find out from the people what the greatest need is and assist in those areas. along with the projects listed above. I will once again be helping out with their wireless networking, computers repairs and upgrades, and implementing a backup system at the school. We ask for your prayers and financial support as we prepare for this trip. We also are looking for computer, monitor and networking equipment donations.

I stole this from a long slew of people who had posted it before me, so it must be good.  Before RSS I would actually have had to go to someone’s blog to have seen this, Thanks Technology!

I’ve had a couple people ask me how to get this setup and I also want to make sure I don’t forget so here goes:

  • In the Connect screen:
  • Nickname: you choose
    Real name: your paren’ts chose
    Default channels: #citrt
Ident: I put same as nickname
    IRC Server: chat.freenode.net
    Port: 6667
  • Hit the Connect button, you will then see a pop-up telling you it’s connecting to server.
  • Then click on #chat button, once there hit on settings button(4 line button) to choose “Join Channel”
  • Add citrt and enter
  • Then click on the #citrt button to be entered into chat

Evernote and twitter

I’m always looking for ways to better remember things that I come across online or in twitter.  Well it seems you can use a mention or DM of @myen in twitter once you have your account registered and it will automatically enter that info into Evernote.  I find this to be a quick and easy way to save stuff for later, I just hit the Retweet button (so i don’t have to type it all out) and switch it to a “d myen”

What do you use to help stay organized?

My Top 10 Apps for Droid

| Posted in Technology, google |

2

I was one of those people who was at the store at 7am on Friday, i couldn’t wait to get the Droid plus I was hoping to get back to give my wife her phone before her work day started (that didn’t happen). So far I’ve been very impressed with the Droid, it’s quick, it got a great screen, i’ve had no coverage isssues, and i’ve found an app for everything i’ve looked for so far.  The difficulty with apps so far is no one knows which ones to get, it’s a new device for most and there are still a lot of apps to choose from. So far my must have apps for the Droid in no particular order are:

  • Facebook – well for Facebook
  • Twidroid – yup, you guessed it for Twitter, latest version already has lists
  • Bible –  from YouVersion, can’t wait till Live is integrated (hint, hint)
  • Calorie Counter – great app to track what you’re eating and it’s nutrional information, use your camera to scan the barcode and the info will be added automatically
  • CardioTrainer – another great health app that uses your phone’s GPS and as a pedometer to track your routes, call off pace, set goals, etc
  • fIRC chat – As a Church IT guy you always have to be connected to our IRC chat to get your questions answered quickly
  • Key Ring - So you don’t have to carry around all your rewards cards, gym tags, etc
  • OurGroceries – syncs automatically between my phone and the wifes phone, also stores recipes so you can make sure you are picking up everything you need.
  • Slacker – gotta have your radio
  • wpToGo – Mobile access to my blog, hopefully i’ll use this to actually write posts more often

So what apps are you using? What have you tried that just don’t work the way it should? What apps do you wish you could find?

I didn’t plan on making this a top 10 list, but when i got done and had 10 well I had to name it that way.

I could listen to this all day long…

It’s been awhile since I posted but I thought of no better way to come back then with this video of God of this City.  I could listen to this all day long, over and over, powerful stuff!

Back from Navajo

You come back from a Mission trip with all sorts things going through your head.  How you’re going to change, what you’re going to change, things you can do, things you should’ve done, going back next year, etc. I kept waiting for this great ephipany of a blog post to write and share….I’m still waiting. It’s hard to even know where to begin but I feel I need to start writing to get the process going.  First off I want to thank each of you, those that prayed, those that gave, those that followed along, it took each of you for this trip to happen and for it to be a success.  There are many things about the trip I’d like to share but right now I there is something more important to share.  Keith Martin, our Worship Arts pastor, is the leader of the Navajo trip.  He’s been dealing with back pain for quite awhile and it got progressively worse on the trip to the point he ended up coming home early to have it taken care of.  It comes to find they have found a mass in his abdomen.  All  that to say, please keep up with his status and pray for him, find out his latest at http://www.gowoodland.com/keith

Wasabi Gospel

Wasabi Gospel

Finished reading Wasabi Gospel, Shawn Wood’s second book, and it was I believe even better than the first. Shawn’s first book had me at the title alone,  200 Pomegranates and an Audience of One: Creating a Life of Meaning and Influence.  I just have to say if Shawn keeps titling his books about food I’m probably going to have to read them all. Luckily there’s a sushi place just down the road I can head to real quick everytime I see the cover of Wasabi Gospel. Shawn’s writing style drew me into 200P/A1  and made me want to get Wasabi Gospel as soon as I could.  It’s like sitting with that close friend that doesn’t have to sugar coat everything but you love them for saying what you don’t want to hear.  Shawn takes those statements from the Gospels  and challenges us to live them and not just walk around them.  In the same way you’ll never truly appreciate wasabi unless you take a big bite you’ll not completely the truths Jesus longs for our life unless we live them out.  The challenge of not just loving your friends and the enemies you don’t have to worry about but loving the enemies that challenge and threaten you, your family, and all that matter to you. The Wasabi Gospel is a book you’ll love even if it challenges you in ways and in things you didn’t think it would. Want some more info on the book or Shawn? Check out:

I just want to open by saying, “Wow” – I am amazed at the response I have gotten to be involved.  All I can say is that I am honored.

Because of the response I am going to break the tour up into two “bites”.  You are a part of BITE ONE!

Bite one will be on July 8th (which is a WEDNESDAY) with a post around 9am your time to coincide with the Amazon Book Bomb.

Here is a link to the full digital copy of the book.  Please do not share this link with anyone else.

http://issuu.com/abingdonpress/docs/wasabi_gospel
I have also cc Ashley Miller from Abingdon Press and if you will forward her your physical address she will get a hard copy out to you as soon as those are available.

Your blog belongs to you and I am an invited guest , so you can review the book anyway you would like, but here are a few suggestions:

1.  You can review the whole book – or even better pick your favorite chapter and review it.  This may help too if you don’t get a chance to read the whole book before July 8th.

2.  Please Mention early on in the post that July 8th is also the Book Bomb on Amazon.com and link to the page to buy the book… here is a link that you can use

http://www.amazon.com/gp/entity/-/B001JSAWAU
3.  Here is a link to a graphic if you can feel free to use:

4. You can include this 411 if you want:

www.twitter.com/shawnwood
www.facebook.com/shawnwood
5.  Twitter that you are going to be hosting the blog tour as often as you like and I will RT you!

6.  And finally if you are able to buy a book on July 8th to support the book bomb (which I would greatly appreciate) please give your free copy away to someone who does not know Jesus but is exploring!  I will pray that the free copies make into the hands that will set someone else free!

Thanks so much everyone and if you have any questions please let me know! Please send me the permalink to your post and I will make sure and link to it from my blog on July 8th!
